Moving your home in itself is a treacherous task since it is both effort-exhaustive and time-consuming. It is an enormous task in terms of logistics and poor weather conditions make it even more difficult to move stress-free. While summer months may seem like the ideal time for moving, they are usually the peak moving season that introduces another element to the already strenuous process – the heat. Here are some key tips and precautionary measures that one must take during moving in the summer heat:

Take Note of the Common Signs

When you are moving during summer, there are some tell-tale signs that you should be looking out for to prevent yourself from heat rash, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and dehydration. Some of the common signs include vomiting, dilated pupils, sweating, dizziness, fainting, headache and dry and red skin. In such conditions, be well prepared with the remedies in your personal moving kit and do not pack them with all your other boxes.

Plan in Advance

Even during the scorching summers, early mornings usually have the ideal temperature to protect you from the sun’s excessive heat. During summer, it is best practice to start early. It isn’t just a great way to beat the heat, but you will move stuff before the peak traffic hours too.

Ensure Continuous Hydration

Dehydration can kick in if you are moving during summer when the temperature is usually on the higher side. The best way to beat dehydration is by sipping in water from time to time. Since you are already losing a lot of water through sweat, some of the tell-tale signs that the water content in your body has reduced are dry skin, dizziness, sleepiness, rapid heartbeat and fewer trips to the washroom. To remedy this, you should carry a water bottle on you with plenty of avenues to get a refill. It is recommended to drink at least two to four glasses of water each hour during the move.

Protect Yourself From the Sun

The goal is to reduce your exposure to the sun, so you sweat less and do not face dehydration. Stepping under the shade from time to time is a great way to get some relief. Another thing that you can do is to wear sunscreen for the day. If it’s too hot, wearing loose cotton clothes or breathable fabric can also help since they give your body space to breathe while giving you an extended range of motion. Ensure you pack these separately as well.

Turn On the AC

A moving van won’t have air conditioning unless you are in the cabin. When moving, ensure that you turn on the AC at point A (source) and point B (destination) – your new address. Set the temperature at a comfortable number to take relief from time to time without putting yourself at risk of exposure to the heatwave for a long time.
