The moving day has come. Isn’t it exciting that you will be finally moving to a new place? Although ideally, you should’ve packed and labeled everything before you are ready to move. If not, you are in for a day of chaos, since moving isn’t as easy as it may sound. Assuming that you are all geared up and ready to move, here’s a checklist that marks all the essential details you should keep a note of.

Prepare a Priority Box

A priority box isn’t some medical supplies-only box, rather everything you will need right after moving. It includes food supplies, documents, phone chargers, medication, a few pairs of clothes, and so on. You can label it as a ‘Priority Box’ that will make it easy to find.

Arrange a Separate Box for Valuables

Movers are essentially not the best way to carry your personal and government documents, degrees, jewelry, and anything that holds a certain value. You can arrange for a separate box just for these items. Take it to the new residence by yourself rather than entrusting it to a third party.

Make an Inventory of Everything

You aren’t just moving all by yourself when you move to a new residence. You carry hundreds of items from a tiny pin to a huge closet and more. Thus, creating an inventory of all the items you have, stuff you want to discard, etc., is a great option. Making a list also ensures that you can keep track of all the things you move and where to keep them.

Keep Everything Organized

When you pack stuff, it essentially should carry proper labeling because that is how you will eventually find things. However, when movers unload the boxes at a new residence, ensure that they actually know where to unload rather than just stacking all the boxes in the living room. It should minimize the time it will take you to unravel the boxes and organize the items accordingly.

Set Up the New Residence Before Moving

You can’t do everything on a moving day because it will be taxing. When moving to a new home, there are things like electricity and other utilities, leasing or rent documents, forwarding address, and other stuff you must take care of. It turns out that completing these tasks before you start moving will eventually save you from all the hassle.

Ensure a Thorough Walkthrough

You should ensure a thorough walkthrough in both the old and the new home with the respective homeowners. It is how you can ensure the conditions of the home, both before and after you arrive to live. If not rectified before handing over the keys, any damage to the old home will be deducted from the security deposit. When it comes to the new house, an inspection should reveal potential issues, so that you don’t end up paying for what was not your fault.
